The leather on this very large family Bible had dried out and the heavy boards had come away from the book block. The original spine piece was in relatively good condition so with the client we decided to do a leather re-back. Once the original spine had been removed and the old lining taken off, we needed to add some support and reinforce the inner joints of the book with fraynot and tapes. We also had to match the decorative marble paper inside the volume. Once the book was re-backed and the original spine replaced we dyed down the leather to its original black finish.
