Experienced hand bookbinder, conservator and gold finisher Required
We are a small traditional hand bookbinding company, specializing in the hand restoration and binding of books and paper conservation. We also make bespoke boxes, flap cases and portfolios. Our customer base is mainly Institutions and Library collections.
KEY TASKS:
Preparation work necessary for conservation of books and manuscripts prior to binding, including pulling, cleaning, conservation, pressing, collating, sewing, linings, binding and gold foil lettering.
Ability to produce all styles of binding; re-backs, rebinds, library style and account books. Quarter, half and full bindings in leather and buckram.
Hand gold finishing in gold leaf/foil, both in type and hand letters.
EXPERIENCE:
Previous experience within a hand bookbinding environment with an excellent understanding of all aspects of hand binding and gold finishing is required.
Good eye for detail and a great work ethic is a must!
Full-time hours: 37.5 per week
